Idol Goes Big And Gives Back
Although Wednesday's American Idol won't be saying goodbye to another contestant, (the results will be shown Thursday night) they will be airing their Idol Gives Back show for the second year in a row. The fundraiser will be raising money for both U.S. and international charities and will feature big stars like Brad Pitt, Hollywood it-couple David and Victoria Beckham, Miley Cyrus, and former Idol winners Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks. I recommend having a box of kleenex handy as the show will also include heartfelt stories informing people firsthand on how this special will be making a difference in the lives of many.
Ryan Phillipe Opens Up About His Divorce
“There were a good four or five months of not being able to get out of bed … It was the worst time in my life … I spend a lot of time just holed up in my house in Los Angeles. I don’t really go out because I know it’s going to turn into a photo shoot … because I was married to the highest-paid actress in the world. Even though I’m not with her any longer, there is a certain amount of notoriety that I guess sticks beyond. It’s just not interesting to me. It’s not how I want to be defined.” - Ryan Phillipe in W Magazine

Reese tops female box-office earners
Reese Witherspoon, 31, who earns between $15-$20 million a movie, has topped the Hollywood Reporter's annual list of the highest-paid actresses. Angelina Jolie, 32, comes in second, with a similar paycheck, though she only took home $8 million for Beowulf. Third place: Cameron Diaz, 35, who cashes in about $15 million a flick. However, she banked $30 million for the third installment of Shrek this year. After a string of flops — including this summer's The Invasion — Nicole Kidman, 40, dropped two spots and now commands $10-$15 million a film. Renée Zellweger, 38, and Sandra Bullock, 43, also take home $10-$15 million, as does one-time box office champ Julia Roberts, 40 — who returns to the big screen in December's Charlie Wilson’s War. Rounding out the list: Drew Barrymore, 32 and Jodie Foster, 45, who make $10- $12 million per movie and the five-months-pregnant Halle Berry, 41, who nets about $10 million. The salary list appears in the Hollywood Reporter's "Women in Entertainment: Power 100" issue is out Tuesday.

Reese and Jake's romantic weekend

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal spent a romantic few days in Napa Valley, California, last weekend. On November 10, Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon checked in to a private house with a rooftop jacuzzi at the exclusive Carneros Inn. Over the weekend, they relaxed and enjoyed each other's company, taking in a couple's massage, dinner, and a laid-back morning picnic. "They looked like they didn't have a care in the world," says a witness. "Reese looked like she was in heaven!"

Reese and Jake's spooky PDA
Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon had another PDA-packed public date Wednesday, taking Witherspoon's two children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, trick or treating in LA's Brentwood neighborhood. Witherspoon was dressed as a witch; Gyllenhaal as an ape. "They were holding hands and swinging them in the air as they walked around the neighborhood," says a witness, who added that Gyllenhaal often lifted up his gorilla mask to smooch his Rendition co-star. "Reese was laughing at everything Jake was saying." As Ava (also in a witch costume) and Deacon (a superhero) ran up to every door for treats, "Reese and Jake waited on the sidewalk and flirted," the onlooker says. "Jake tapped Reese on the butt and then she hit him back - they began running in a circle hitting each other!" the witness reports. "Sometimes he came up from behind and nuzzled his big hairy mask into her neck."

On October 19, Witherspoon was spotted resting her head on Gyllenhaal's shoulder while walking through the streets as they enjoyed some downtime.

Reese and Jake's secret hookup
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have been doing a pretty good job of keeping their reported romance under wraps, but were photographed by paparazzi this week meeting up for a little rendezvous. The couple arrived separately at a house in Venice and after spending a few hours inside, each left in their own car. Hmm....this doesn't really prove much, but anyway.

Ryan requests joint custody
Ryan Phillippe filed a legal response earlier this week to estranged wife Reese Witherspoon's divorce claim. In documents submitted on Tuesday, Phillippe is seeking joint custody of the former couple's two children, and cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. The Flags of Our Fathers actor is not asking for spousal support and asks that child visitation be "equally allocated." Witherspoon filed for divorce last November.

Reese buys rights to teen murder story
Reese Witherspoon's production company is developing a film based on the book Under the Bridge, a true-crime story about a high school murder. This should ring some bells for Canadian readers - the story chronicles the 1997 murder of Reena Virk in Victoria, BC, and the eight high school students who were charged in the case. Type A Films, Witherspoon's company, has bought both film rights and life rights to the author's story, with the possibility of the author herself becoming a character in the film.

Reese and Jake: it's for real
Friends say that though Reese Witherspoon's new relationship with and hottie Jake Gyllenhaal was unexpected, it's the real thing. After meeting on the set of Rendition, the couple's "little flirtation" just took its course. "Things slowly progressed, but it was never something she thought would happen from the start," says a source close to both stars. "She just kind of developed this little crush over time." At a dinner at Hollywood's Il Sole a few weeks ago, "there was definitely some canoodling going on!" said an onlooker. The new couple also tooled around NYC together, sharing a quiet dinner at La Ripaille, an eatery near Gyllenhaal's Manhattan apartment. Of Witherspoon's two children with former husband Ryan Phillippe, a source says, "Jake finds it attractive that she's such a great mom. He really loves kids and wants a family." A friend of the Zodiac star admits, "They're super together - this thing is for real."

New couple alert: Reese and Jake
Reese Witherspoon's rumored new guy is none other than Zodiac hottie Jake Gyllenhaal. After getting to know each other on the set of Rendition, the pair have recently taken their friendship to the next level. "In the last month, they've been spending a lot more time together," says a source close to Gyllenhaal. "Jake really likes her and isn't at all concerned that she has two kids." Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal were spotted looking cozy on March 23 at Hollywood's Il Sole restaurant. "They were cuddling," said a fellow diner. "It looked very playful." A week later, Witherspoon was seen picking up takeout at The Clay Pit while Gyllenhaal waited in the car. "When she came back out to the car, he got out and opened the door for her and was shielding his face so no one would see him," said an observer. The new couple are definitely taking things slow, according to a source close to Witherspoon. "[Reese] is still very, very hurt by Ryan and it will take a long time to get over that," says the source. "[But she and Jake] have a mutual interest. they are taking it slow and getting to know each other."

Reese makes artistic move

Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon has fired her agents at the Endeavor group and joined the Creative Artists Agency. The switch marks the second time Witherspoon has swapped agencies since Steve Dontanville, the rep who discovered the actress at the age of thirteen, retired. One insider thinks Witherspoon's separation from husband Ryan Phillippe might have had a part in her decision, saying, "Going through a divorce causes people to do a re-examination." Under contract to Endeavor, Witherspoon shot Rendition with Jake Gyllenhaal and Meryl Streep and signed on to do a remake of Bunny Lake is Missing.
