Sexy, colorful and exciting - what better way to showcase a collection of sexy, lacy party dresses than at an actual party?

Why bind a collection to the harsh runway lighting, when you can add all that dramatic party lighting?

When you have such a sexy, youthful and fun fashion collection, why not give it flight and stage it in a real party setting?

So that is exactly what designer Betsey Johnson did to launch her springtime collection, which she hosted in the lobby ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

She hosted a party for her spring fashion collection complete with live music from Ida Marie whose song Oh My God has created a OMG moment on the Gossip Girl tv series.

The hotel lobby ballroom was lite with those warm lighting effects that evoke the feel of a warm spring night.

Johnson populated the collection with some very colorful and lacy summertime cocktail dresses.

Shining metallic fabrics were also use to brighten up the night and capture the moody lighting with a miniskirt made of blue metallic material.

Of course, black is also a color of the night and Johnson created a black sexy sequin cocktail mini skirt as part of her spring fashion designer line.

Her collection evoked the feel of a Las Vegas show with models wearing fancy headwear.

Models wore creations that included a strapless pink, sequin mini dress, a tiny white lace up skirt, bustier dresses with lengths of black lace, a neon colored leopard print cocktail dress.

Betsey Johnson herself wore a yellow knit jumpsuite with a black mesh corset overlay.

The forever youthful fashion designer and grandmother, treated her audience to her signature show stopping cartwheels and a split.

I don't know were she gets her supply of fairy dust, but this forever-youthful designer should be an inspiration to us all.

Her springtime collection is filled with numerous must have items.

Absent from the big tent this year, but certainly not absent from the world of fashion was Betsey Johnson.

The designer decided to forgo the expense of a big show under the tents in favor of a showing at her showroom.

Betsey Johnson fall 2009 fashion collection is really cooking and she certainly knows how to capture all the colors of the rainbow in a dazzling display of fall colors.

We especially love her usage of brilliant colorful leggings to go with each outfit.

We always adore her layered look - whether it's a sexy prom dress or a equally sexy and hot cocktail dress.

Betsey Johnson flair for layering is simply astonishing.

We especially loved the black and red layered petticoat in lacey chiffons, black corset midriff with four bow ties and black and glittery top.

A pink jump suit with oversized belt with multi studs and shag carpet coat, multi colored zebra leggins by Betsey Johnson.

Another favorite of ours was a black petticoat skirt with green leaf and red flower patterns.

A bright yellow waist cincher added to this colorful outfit toped by a black fringe top.

Lavender leggings and shoes with spots and multi ties created a truly unique and colorful ensemble.

Knits were also featured in the collection.

We truly love the blue with pink pattern kit mini dress with big blue round buttons and pink fringe on the skirt.

Again, the fishnet pantyhose added to the glamour of the outfit.

Off shoulders mini dress in multi color stripes and lavender pantyhose by Betsey Johnson.

A pink jump suit with oversized belt with multi studs and shag carpet coat, also caught our eye.

Especially when paired with zebra striped leggings.

One leg was in black and white stripes while the other leg had a rainbow of stripe colors - black and white, blue and black, red and black, yellow and black, and green and black.

Definitely, the leggings made this outfit memorable.

Color is certainly one of Bestey Johnson strong points.

Another of Bestey Johnson creations features a simple off the shoulders mini dress in multi color stripes.

Black at the top, pink, black belt with double black buckle and colorful long sleeves in multi colors, paired with beautiful lavender pantyhose.

Betsey Johnson's Food for Thought Fashion Show

To show off her fall 2009 collection, Betsey Johnson didn't use the typical runway.

Instead, the designer threw a house party to celebrate a 25-piece collection inspired by food.

From those dark smoky eyes her models wear to those rosy pink cheeks and wild red lipstick, the makeup is very much a part of the look.

Not only was her show a trip through memory lane, but a look back and forward at some very hot styles.

Just luv those above the knee pull up stockings in red or black, they create a very sexy schoolgirl look.

Especially love that pink, knit sweater mini dress - fab!

Talk about skulls in fashion, Betsey Johnson included one of her 1982 skull mini dresses, with low cut u neckline and black lace see through material.

What more can you say about Betsey Johnson - she can still do her signature cartwheel at the end of the show.

Still hot, sexy and youthful after all these years.

Well knowned for her carefully crafted show themes, the focus of Betsey Johnson Fall 2007 was a School of Charm.

The show opened as several models dressed up in maids costumes strutted down the catwalk with dust brooms in hand - dusting as they go.

We just loved the high waisted shorts that were featured throughout Betsey Johnson Fall 2007 collection.

Black high waisted shorts, black opaque tights, toped by a silky pink top and black jacket was one of our favorities.

Another high waisted shorts combo was featured in grey and black, with black opaque tights and a black shirt with large front tie - great for the fall cocktail set or the dance floor.

A little black mini dress with layered skirts, reminded us of the 20s flapper look and looked great on the catwalk .

Betsey Johnson - this 65 year old grandmother can still do a great cartwheel down the catwalk.

Still beautiful and looking like a flower child, Betsey Johnson is one of our favorite designers.

Although this year's fall collection was supposed to represent the more mature side of Betsey, the collection features some sexy outfits including hot pants, and those ties and big bow ties that were turning up at many designer fall collections.
